ground forces they landed
Gen Omar Bradley was in command of US forces and Gen Bernard Montgomery in charge of British and Canadian forces.
US Army General Pershing led US Ground Forces in France in WW One. General John "Black Jack" Pershing
Gen .Omar Bradley led them on the ground in France.
Coalition aircraft may have when striking ground targets. Ground troops simply ejected Iraqi forces from Kuwait...which was the mission.
The last of the US GROUND TROOPS were pulled out. Conventional forces only, NOT the advisors, Special Forces (Green Berets), etc.
Trick question. So we'll try to answer it this way: Offensive operations ceased by US forces in 1973 with the bulk of US troops departing country in 1972 for ground forces and 1973 for the air forces. But "defensive" combat continued or was reintroduced to evacuate ALL US PERSONNEL by 30 April 1975. And May 1975, if people want to consider the Mayaquez incident as part of the war. (Which apparently the US Government does).
The US Marines are an extension of the US Navy. They provide ground forces for amphibious and air assualts. They also provide security for US Naval establishements and the US Embassy's.
The US didn't know how to compute the victories and defeats in the early days. Couldn't go by the old stand by...taking ground...so something new had to be invented; the BODY COUNT! So, the US forces won alot of battles, and lost very few...because the US forces killed many a communist in South Vietnam, from the very early days in 1955 until the 1970s. The US had the firepower to kill more of them, than they could us. So our counts were usually higher.
