Tivo is its own product and runs on its own so you would have to buy a DVD player seperatly and just link them together . You would need to use different remotes though in order for them to work properly .

Reading discs is a problem with the DVD player, not the inputs. You can use an external DVD player and play the audio through the system, but it will only be in stereo. The Coby 937 only uses the surround decoder with its own DVD player.
