The Pharos of Alexandria does not exist anymore. It was severely damaged by earthquakes in 1303 and 1323, and ceased to exist completely in 1480, when the last remaining stump of its base was incorporated into a fort.
A considerable number of the original stones can be seen on the floor of the harbour adjacent to the site, but you'll have to dive to see them. How many people visit the stones in the sea per year[?]... well, your guess is as good as mine! :-)

The main purpose for the lighthouse of Alexandria, also known as the Pharos, was to have been a lighthouse much like today's lighthouses' purpose - to guide ships safely to harbour. Alexandria was a busy harbour, with many trade ships coming in, and the Pharos enabled safe passage. Sailing in this coastal region was very dangerous, so it was built to help the sailors navigate their return to the Great Harbor. It was also both a practical and unique symbol of the 'glory' of the ancient city of Alexandria, which flourished under Ptolemy Soter.

Alexandria was an important trade centre, and a clearly visible lighthouse was necessary for the many ships entering the harbour. Also, it was a very wealthy city, and what better way to show off the wealth of a city than to construct a magnificent tower like the Pharos?
This is an opinion. Many people may have different views on the name Alexandria.
The first lighthouse of Egypt was the Pharos, of Alexandria. The height of the lighthouse of Alexandria was estimated to have been between 115 and 135 m, or 380 and 440 ft, as 10th century travellers reported it as being 300 cubits high. To give a comparison, a 40 storey modern building is about 134m in height.
