Religion that is Christianity was extremely important during the medieval period. People had a real fear of dying and going to hell to burn for eternity. As a result the church could 'blackmail' people into going on Crusade by saying that if you go on Crusade to Jerusalem you will automatically be forgiven all your sins. They also said that you would be forgiven any sins you commit in the future. People truly believe that they were to free Jerusalem from the 'infidels" so a lot of them willingly went on Crusade believing that they would do this great thing and be saved by God from being killed.

The Crusaders
Well apparently it is called the noble crusade because everyone who went on the first crusade and the noble crusade were noble
There were many reasons to go on crusade. People were religious and though it might be good for their souls or get them into heaven. Some people went on crusade to do penance for their sins, some of these by their own volition, and some under orders from the Church. Some people went on the crusades because they were ambitious, greedy, or hateful. The reasons people went certainly ranged from the highest to the lowest. One thing might be added, which is that whatever the reasons for the crusades were, they did not work as planned.
