The 4 cylinder engine actually has ( 8 plug wires ) because of Fords twin plug ignition system The 3.0 L and 4.0 L - V6 engines have ( 6 plug wires )
That's Fords twin plug ignition system , so your Ford Ranger 4 cylinder has ( 8 ) spark plugs and spark plug wires
Pull them out and replace them one at a time.
I'd replace the wires on at a time. I have a special plug wire puller pliers that helps to avoid breaking the wires if you can't get them off the sparks plug.

On mine, the plug wires were bad, and no making a proper connection. changed plugs and wires and the problem was solved.
