If you are fine with it and not planning on reinllseg, you can do what you want. But if you are spending the money and resale is important, do the granite or similar stone counter tops. You will increase the value of your home incredibly. Stainless steel sinks and appliances are the other important upgrade. Undermounted stainless steel sinks are the most chosen. White porcelain not so much but some still have a preference for either white or black in porcelain. If you can't afford a granite or stone slab, look at the tile options they offer in stone countertops. A little cheaper if you can live with all the grouting.
