I recently had the oil pan gasket replaced on my 2001 suburban with the 5.3 liter engine and they told me that it uses 6 quarts when you change the filter. I had been using only 5 quarts when I changed my own oil. Of course this was done in a sloping driveway. Now I know why I would find a low oil level when checking the level about a thousand miles later.
