5 to 6 depending on the size of your engine, put 5 in, start it for 15 seconds, shut it down, check oil leve, and repeat until oil is to the correct spot on the dipstick, word from the wise.... if you dont know how to figure this out without coming online to ask, then you should prob bring your truck in for some one else to work on... dont forget to put clean oil on the rubber seal on the new oil filter before you put it on, otherwise when you shut down your truck, your gonna loose all your oil
