On a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer : ( No , I believe it is the 5R55S , 5 speed automatic transmission )
There is no Cable it is a speed sensor on the transmission

try changing the vehicle speed sensor on the back of the trans
you need mercon II automatic transmission fluid (3) quarts for a five speed
