Need more info. Daylight or dark? If dark, did reflectors or lights on the trailer (if you had any) meet DMV requirements for a moving vehicle? Moving or stopped? USUALLY it is the striking vehicle which gets charged in a rear-end collision investigation, but if the vehicle that was struck 'contributed' to the collision, then you could be charged.
They mark the edge of the safe area, keep clear of them. In the UK red reflectors are always shown to the rear of a vehicle, never to the front, therefore they mean you are approaching the rear of car, lorry, bike etc.

Trailer is way more bigger than a semi-trailer. Common misconception between a trailer and a semi-trailer. Technically, a trailer has wheels in front and rear and is hitched to a pulling vehicle (car,truck,etc.) A semi- trailer only has wheels in the rear and is hitched to a pulling vehicle (car,truck,etc.)
