The Party won a mere thirty-four seats in the federal House of Commons, on nineteen percent of the vote nationwide. For the first time in Canadian history, the Liberal Party have been relegated out of government or opposition status in the Parliament of Canada. Conversely, the New Democratic Party formed its first Loyal Opposition at the federal level in Canadian history, with almost unprecedentedly-broad federalist support through this social-democratic Party in the Province of Quebec.
