It takes 60 seconds for all 5 quarts of blood to pass though the heart.
by going though the heart
the heart has a four chamber system it takes in the blood with out oxygen, gives it oxygen and pumps it though out the body
An individual blood cell takes about 60 seconds to make a complete circuit of the body.
It takes about 20-30 seconds for blood to circulate through the body before returning to the heart.

The heart is just a muscle that pumps blood through the body. When the heart contracts it is pushing the blood around your body. There is a nice, though not too in depth, video on the NOVA website: See the Related Link.

Unoxygenated blood travels to the heart though the veins to be pumped to your lung capillaries. At you lung capillaries the blood becomes oxygenated and then goes back to the heart to pump oxygenated blood to the rest of your body. the capillaries blood travels though you arteries.
The circulation time for your blood is only about 15 seconds. It takes less than five seconds for the blood to reach your toes from your heart.
It takes the average heart about twelve seconds to pump a quart of blood through the body.
