Answer
previous answer ... between 100 and 400.
It may depend on the type of papaya, but my little boy and I
just counted the seeds in one, and it was 576! We were both
surprised that it was that many.
A lot! My little boy just counted the seeds in a papaya, and there
were 576! His estimate was 87, and I would have thought that to be
accurate. We were both surprised when we started counting, to see
how many there actually were.

What happens when you eat too many papaya seeds?

I think i read in a book by Harold Tietze (an Australian) that
over three days he ate 3 papaya including the black seeds. It gave
him a tremendous stomach pain... however a wart fell off his hand.
I usually eat all of the white seeds, if the seeds are black i eat
a few table spoons because they are very spicy. I blend them with
the papaya in a smoothie with greens and banana. I eat the skin too
if it is unblemished and mature green papaya as well. I have a
recipe for papaya ginger beer here:
http://www.rejoiceinlife.com/recipes/papayaBeer.php Recently i have
been having a papaya shoothy every day and my fibromyalgia symptoms
have disappeared. I am not sure if that is associated with the
papaya or not. I am wondering how many black seeds i could eat?

Does papaya seed disperse by water?

We have many seeds being dispersed by water, wind, bees,
butterflies, etc. Papaya seeds are enclosed inside its fruit. When
ripe and sliced for consumption, the seed is exposed and dispersed
by man or beasts. In the rural areas a ripen papaya do fall from
its tree to the ground and devoured by chickens not kept inside the
coop. These birds do also disperse papaya seed also.
