Looks like Facebook has about 10,000 Web servers!! Also 1,800 MySql servers. This is how they manage to survive 50,000 new users a day. ---- This is an update taken facts from 2008:
Facebook is borrowing $100 million to accommodate growth on the site. The money, from venture loan firm TriplePoint, brings the amount raised to around $350 million. The site has grown quickly and needs around 50,000 more servers to handle the load. Facebook has over 70 million active users and around 109 million monthly visitors. According to Business Week, Google and Microsoft need a lot of server space. Google has at least a million servers and adds 500,000 per year. Microsoft is adding 200,000 servers per year. While Facebook keeps expanding, their revenue is rumored to be at about break even. Last year they were said to bring in $150 million and plan to double that figure this year. They have more than 500 employees. Here's a short history of Facebook investments: * 2004 - $500,000 from PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel in an angel round. * 2005 - $12.8 million in venture capital from Accel Partners, $25 million from Greylock Partners and Meritech Capital Partners. * 2007 - Microsoft invested $246 million for 1.6% share in Facebook and Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing invested $60 million. ---- ---- So looking at it's growth it's way past that number. UPDATE: 16/10/2009 Facebook is now reporting to have 30,000 servers in it's data centre. Obviously that $100 million came in handy!
The only available information I had was from last year (late 2010) when Facebook had over 60,000 servers, with over 400 million users. Right now there are most likely a lot more servers, but you get the general picture.
There are a list of proxy servers you can visit that will allow you to get into Facebook and other sites. Some of the proxy are listed below. Proxy4u.eu weproxyinfo
they themselves own it. they own there own domain and servers apparently they have 32000 servers at there data center
The "memory" from Facebook is stored on their multiple, high technology website servers.
They will be stored there forever until you delete them. Even after you delete them, they will stay stored on Facebook's servers for 30-60 days until they are finally permanently deleted by their servers.
Yes,use proxy servers
They have many many servers around more than 400K servers which are highly volatile and contain memory upto 1 exabyte (a million GB's) or even more. Most of the times these sites don't disclose this amount. But my answer is an estimate.
Apparently, Facebook is dealing with a bug of some sort in one of their servers. This is the answer I was able to ascertain from another site where someone had actually called the Facebook customer service and spoke to a person. Many more are dealing with this including me. I've been locked out of Facebook for 4 days now!
Advertising companies pay for space on Facebook pages, the amount of advertising money Facebook gets it larger than the amount it spends on it's workforce and servers, so Facebook makes profit.
The main data center is located in Pineville Oregon. Of course they have servers all over the place. Source: http://www.facebook.com/blog.php?post=262655797130
You can't access facebook in Vietnam because the servers are blocked. It's because Vietnam isn't in the selected facebook areas. They stopped allowing Vietnam into facebook November 16th.- Sorry to hear that.Regards,Administrator
