The only two ships still around that were sunk at Pearl Harbor are both still in the water there. The USS Arizona is straddled by the Memorial structure built 50 years ago, and you can stand on the Memorial and look down and see part of the ship below. Its very visible in aerial photos. The other ship still in the harbor is the USS Utah, on the other side of Ford Island from the Arizona, in an area not usually open to visitors. It was an old battleship whose guns had been removed and her deck was covered over with massive, heavy timbers so she could be used as a target ship for gunnery practice. The Japanese mistook her for an aircraft carrier and wasted a lot of their attack sinking her, and she was not worth raising. All the other ships sunk in the attack were eventually refloated, including the USS Oklahoma. Refloating her was a tremendous job as she had started to capsize and buried her superstructure deeply into the mud, and turner her flat bottom skyward. It took until 1947 to get her back on top of the water, and she was placed under tow to be taken back to the mainland and scrapped. On they way she started to leak again very badly and had to be cut loose from the towship and allowed to go under. So somewhere between Hawaii and California is the wreck of the USS Oklahoma, which is at least theoretically viewable if it is ever found.
