How many slices in an average pie?

Eight slices are in the average pie. It is like a Pizza except it is a desert. When I bake a ten inch pie, I am able to cut it into eight slices, which are equal if I cut them equally. So, one pie will usually give you eight slices.

It depends on how much texture you like in your pie and how hard your apples are. The apple filling of the pie will be like applesauce if you slice soft apples really small. The apples won't get cooked enough if you use hard apples and cut big chunks.

If you are randomly cutting slices off a peeled apple, let it be random. Some pieces will be thicker than others and most will be thicker in the center than on the edges because the apple is round. Aim for pieces between the size of a quarter and a half-dollar.

If you have already sliced the apple (as with a corer/slicer), I cut the apple into thirds or quarters, but I actually like my apples to have a little more body to them so in my opinion, a slicer slices them too thin (1/8-1/4").

If you have already sectioned the apple (with a top-down contraption that removes the core at the same time), cut each 1/6 section into 4-6 pieces.

Really, it all comes down to preference, but hopefully that gives you an idea.

It really depends on how big the apple pie is and how big of a slice you are cutting. It usually serves 6-8 people.
