The generic term for individuals in the Navy is sailor. As of the end of August, 2007, the approximate total of Navy personnel (officer and enlisted) was around 338,000.
The US had a standing Army & Navy in 1940.
The Navy doesn't have soldiers, but they have sailors.
they do not know how many Navy people died in the war
6821 Americans died, but none of them were soldiers. Soldiers belong to the Army, and it was the US Marines who took Iwo Jima. So all the casualties were Marines, or medics serving with the Marines, who are US Navy Corpsmen. There were also 19,217 US wounded.
Today there are a Total of 2,475,967 soldiers in the Military. There is 507,158 soldiers in the army, 347,693 soldiers in the navy, 347,352 soldiers in the air force, 179,762 marines, and a total of 1,381,965 DODs
It is unknown how many soldiers go on a Delta Force missions. It is unknown how many people go on a Navy Seal mission. It all depends on what the mission is.
Calling a "sailor" a "soldier" is like calling all doctors "surgeons." They were different occupations in WWII & Vietnam. During the Vietnam War US Soldiers belonged to the US Army; US Marines belonged to the US Marine Corps, US Airmen were part of the US Air Force, US Coast Guardsmen were members of the USCG, and men of the US Navy were called US Sailors. Approximately 174,000 US Sailors served in the Viet War.
Only about 2,000 navy seals in the U.S. Navy
During WW2 the US Navy built 126 submarines.
US Servicemen were fighting regular (NVA) soldiers and airmen from the North Vietnamese Army, Air Force, and Navy (Tonkin Gulf Incident). US Servicemembers are NOT fighting the Iraqi Air Force, Army, or Navy.
None, this was a Navy battle; Marines were on Midway Island.
In America: Soldiers are members of an army. Sailors are members of a navy. Airmen are aviation personnel, normally as members of an Air Force; Marines are Marines and are assigned to the US Navy. Surely you must mean how many US Servicemen were killed in WWII contrasted with the Vietnam War...because there ARE break-down statistics for "Soldier" casualties ONLY; for example, over 58,000 US servicemen were killed in Vietnam...of that figure, about 38,209 were US SOLDIERS. More US servicemen were killed in WWII than Vietnam.
