In the beginning of World War 1 Prime Minister Borden offered Britain 25 000 troops, the first division of the CEF. In the early months of recruiting more than 33 000 volunteered. By 10 months of the war being declared more than 100 000 volunteered. So many voluteered because they thought it would be a short war (home by Christmas), they would receive a heroes welcome home, they would experience an exciting adveenture over seas, and also for the pay.
