According to a May 2001 Drug Threat Assessment by the National Drug Intelligence Center, Los Angeles County is home to 152,000 gang members organized into 1,350 gangs.

There are about 300,000 gang members in California out of an estimated 800,000 gang members nationwide.

That question is probably impossible to answer accurately. Hundreds of thousands.... To get a more accurate number you will first have to know how many 'documented' gang members are in each city/county.

First off California is not divided into two separate states so your qualifier of "Southern" does not make sense. The California Department of Corrections recognizes 7 prison gangs. All other gangs and affiliations are referred to as disruptive groups. The 7 recognized gangs are:

1. Nuestra Familia

2. Aryan Brotherhood

3. Nazi Low Riders

4. Mexican Mafia

5. Texas Syndicate

6. Black Guerrilla Family

7. Northern Structure or Nuestra Raza

Every other group including Bloods, Crips, Kumi, Bulldogs, Skinheads etc. are considered to be disruptive groups and not prison gangs. None of these groups or gangs are exclusive to Southern or Northern California as there are members of each from all areas though there are very few Northern Structure or Nuestra Familia members in the South.

What prison gang tattoo the ts on them?

TS stands for Texas Syndicate which was formed at Folsom State Prison by Hispanic inmates from Texas to protect themselves from predation by other gangs within the system. By and large the gang is defunct within the California prison system though it is still recognized as a bonafide prison gang by California prison officials. Many members of the gang did migrate back to Texas and the gang is thriving within that states penal institutions.

Do Surenos run California?

"Hi I am James C. ltt. and Im gonna let you know Surenos don't exactly run California They Controll all Southern California and have many members in Northern California. Nortenos are not as active than Surenos.Nortenos will be only active in the metro part of Santa Rosa Because of the N.F gangs.VSRN is the most biggest and active Norteno gang in Northern California all other gangs will try to click up with VSRN because they have done most of the crimes of Nortenos.VSRN stands for VarrioSantaRosaNortenos." Surenos don't have control over the entire California state. Like James said, they originate from Southern California cities such as Los Angeles and San Diego. In respect to the Norteno/Sureno war, Nortenos have virtually no control over turf in Southern California. Surenos within LA and San Diego war with other gangs from those cities. Due to the increasing Hispanic population in LA, Sureno membership is constantly increasing, and Mexican or other Latino gangs have started to occupy various traditionally Black neighborhoods such as Compton, West LA, Northeast LA, and Long Beach. Some Mexican gangs in these areas exorcise "ethnic cleansing" of black gangs as ordered by the Mexican Mafia. The "ES Longos" of Long Beach are known to fight with Blood, Crip, and Asian gangs in the area, while "The Avenues" have targeted Blacks gangsters and citizens in the Northeastern area. Nortenos originate from cities north of Bakersfield and occupy all major Norcal cities. Cities like Stockton, Salinas, Sacramento, and Oakland are Norteno strongholds, though small Sureno gangs have succeeded in occupying territory in those cities. Northern California is still very much Norteno territory, shared of course with Black and Asian gangs.
