There is no real answer. It is entirely dependent on your horse. Theoretially, you would want to be able to substain a horse entirely off of good quality hay, but this is not always an option.

If you are looking to budget for your own specific horses, the only thing to do is to keep track of what they are eating and figure it out for yourself. It is also dependent on the cost of any hard feed you are using, as well as hay.

You may receive many answers on this, but even if you had two posters feeding the exact same amounts per day/month, you would still find differing numbers due to feed costs.

If you don't have any horses at the moment, it might be best to sit down and figure out what you can afford a month and start to look at horses that you could afford to feed, whether that be someone able to be kept up on pasture board and hay, etc.

Another option for a lower budget is to board your horse where you will not have to worry about day to day or month to month changes in feed, nor costs rising as the price of hay goes up.

That all depends on the size and type of bales you have, as well as the forage biomass of that field. Bales come in not just one size, they come in small square, large square, small round and large round bales. Forage biomass is also different from year to year, depending on current seasonal conditions (moisture, sunlight, soil) for your area.

How many bags of hay does a horse eat a year?

This is an impossible question to answer as each horse varies in size and work load. Also bales of hay vary in size, they can be as light as 40lbs and as heavy as 120lbs. So you would have to work out the math and know how many pounds per days your horse eats along with how big the bales are you intend to buy.

What is the average cost of hay per bale in Tennessee?

Big square bales (although they are really rectangular), big round bales (although they are not really round) or the smaller rectangular bales? What kind of hay would also make a big difference. The quality and the cutting would vary the price. The quantity and method of delivery would have to be calculated. The timeof year, weather conditions and demand will all vary the price.
