The myth for this constellation and how it got its name is the phoenix would apparently end its life in a burning conflagration, only to rise once more from ashes and live again. It's said to live for five hundred years. After this period of time it collects nice smelling wood to only pile it up and be consumed of fire and flame. For it to only come to life once more.
