Georgetown University, founded in 1789, took the name of its home town, established in 1751. The town, originally George Town, was named in honor of King George II of Great Britain who reigned at that time (1727-1760). He was the grandfather of "Mad" King George III ("the king who lost America"). Cool answer my last name is Georgetown you might know my dad Aaron Georgetown anyway thx for the answer.
