It is bordered by three states on the west: Nebraska in the far northwest, Kansas for most of the west side, and Oklahoma in the far southwest. Further, on the north, it is bordered by Iowa On the east side, it is bordered by two states: Illinois for the most part with just a tiny part of the southeast rubbing corners with Kentucky. On the south, it is bordered by two states: most of the southern border is in contact with Arkansas with just a very small portion bordering with Tennessee. So, in total, Missouri shares borders with eight states.

As a bit of trivia, Missouri and Tennessee share the honor of touching the most states.

Clarification: Missouri, Tennessee and Texas are the only U.S. states that each border eight other states, but Missouri and Tennessee are the only ones that each border eight other U.S. states (Texas borders four U.S. states and four Mexican states).
