That is very difficult to answer because of the change of definition. Originally a Protestant was a Catholic who protested against the false teaching and false doctrine of Rome. These were still Catholics but not in the eye's of Rome (the Vatican).
They have since identified themselves as "Lutheran, Episcopalian, Church of England, and such but are still Catholics, but not Roman Catholic.
Today there many denominations of Christian churches that do not identify themselves with the Catholic church in any way shape or form. These are the Christian churches you see in every neighborhood who usually follow The Bible as their authority instead of an administration.

If you are looking for a specific denomination, it might be good to look that one up online specifically.

Martin Luther; He started the Reformation by hammering a list of things wrong with the Catholic church to the door. He created the Lutheran denomination of Protestantism.
