John F. Kennedy was administered the last rites of the Roman Catholic Church on 4 occasions. The first time time when he nearly died from scarlet fever at age 2. The second time, shortly after his being diagnosed with Addison's Disease at age 30. The third time, at age 37 when after an unsuccessful spinal column operation, he succumbed to serious infection. A fourth and last time, when he was unsuccessfully resuscitated in the emergency room of Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

John F. Kennedy could also have died when his PT boat was cut in two by a Japanese destroyer in 1942. But he survived to personally rescue one of his crew members by clinching the strap of his life preserver by his teeth and swimming him on his back to an island.
