Hmmm...6, I think.
She first lived in Pepin, Wisconsin. Then, the Ingalls family moved to "Indian Territory" in Kansas. They moved back to Pepin before going to Plum Creek, Minnesota. Next, they moved to De Smet, South Dakota, where Laura married Almanzo. Then, the two of them moved to Florida for about two years. Laura did not like the hot and humid climate; so they moved to Mansfield, Missouri, where they lived for about 55 to 65 years.
I think that Laura and Almanzo also visited a cousin (I think Laura's cousin Peter) for a few months in Louisiana. Though, I did not include that in the 6 places.
Laura Ingalls Wilder moved multiple times during her childhood. The Ingalls family moved at least nine times while Laura was growing up, as depicted in her book series "Little House on the Prairie." They moved due to various reasons such as seeking better opportunities, economic conditions, and personal challenges.
Laura moved to different locations five times in her life. There were also numerous smaller seasonal moves between the house in town in De Smet and the claim shanty. Also, when in Missouri, Laura and Almanzo moved across the road to a new modern house their daughter had built for them, but they moved back again, preferring the house they had built with their own hands.
This is quite a list: Born in Wisconsin, Laura moved with her family to Kansas, back to Wisconsin, then to Walnut Grove Minnesota, the for a year to Burr Oak, Iowa, then back to Walnut Grove, then to De Smet, South Dakota. As a married woman, she then moved to Spring Valley, Minnesota to her in-laws for about 18 months, then to the Florida Panhandle, for a very brief time (about 9 months), then back to Spring Valley, briefly, then back to De Smet. Finally she moved to Mansfield, Missouri, and spent the next 60 years of her life there, until her death.
Pretty much her whole life. 1st her family moved to Kansas from Wisconsin in 1869. Then even though it doesn't say it in her books, the Ingalls move for a 2nd time back to Wisconsin in 1871. Then in 1874 The Ingalls move to Walnut Grove, Minnesota. In 1876, this isn't in her books but, they move to Burr Oak, Iowa but, then in 1878 the Ingalls move back to Walnut Grove, Minnesota. Then in 1979 they move to DeSmet, Dakota Territory. Finally for the last time Laura and Almanzo Wilder move to Mansfield, Missouri on Rocky Ridge Farm in 1894. So she moved 7 times, all in a covered wagon.
Laura was 3 when the family began moving. They moved west to Kansas at the age of 3 1/2. Laura had to portray herself as older in her book Little House on the Prairie because of the chronology she had set up in her first book. With the third book On the Banks of Plum Creek, she is back to her correct age.
Laura's Pa, Charles Ingalls, had the true "Pioneering" spirit. Once a land became settled he always wanted to move to new frontiers. He would have left DeSmet, SD for Oregon but he promised his wife Caroline that South Dakota would be their last move. Laura also had her father's wandering spirit and was just as excited as he was to move to new territories. However, after Laura married Almanzo Wilder, they moved only 2 times, once to Florida where the heat and humidity were too much for Laura, then to Mansfield, Missouri where they lived the rest of their lives. Laura's daughter Rose also had a wandering spirit and lived in, worked in and visited many countries all over the world.
In the first 25 years of her life, Laura moved 13 or 14 times, but once she and her husband arrived in Mansfield, Missouri, they spent the rest of their lives there.
Between birth and age 12, Laura and her family moved six times.
