Why did the Romans persecute Christian's despite their general religions?

Some Roman emperors were worried about the loyalty of the Christians to the Roman state. The Romans saw Roman religion as an integral part of the Roman state. The Christians were converting Romans to their religion. The emperor Decius ordered everyone in the empire to perform sacrifices in honour to the Roman gods to prove their loyalty to the state. The Christians refused to do so because they abhorred sacrifices and because they saw this as a betrayal of their god. Many Christians were executed. The emperor Valerian took a similar action. Later the emperor Diocletian unleashed the biggest persecution, again because he saw the Christians as a threat to the state.

What are some of the issues that divided pagan Romans and Christian Romans during the Roman Empire?

Pagan Romans believed that there were many gods, and wanted the Christians to worship or at least recognize Roman gods in their worship as well as the Christian God. The Christians wouldn't do this, because it went against their religion to worship more than one god. The pagans also wanted the Christians to do ritualistic sacrifices to their gods, which the Christians also refused to do, as well as worship the Roman emperor. Not worshipping the Roman gods, not sacrificing to the gods, and not worshipping the emperor were all crimes of law in Rome, and so many Christians were killed for not doing these things. Christians were also accused of cannibalism (this is my body, eat this is remembrance of me...), and not contributing to society/laziness.

Emperor Nero and his reasons in persecuting christians?

The reason for Nero's persecution of Christians may be attributed to the Great Fire of Rome in 64 AD. The city was reduced to rubble and although many thought that Nero may have been responsible for the blaze, a few sources say that Christians may have confessed to the crime, although by free will or by torture is unknown. Because of this, Nero and the community placed the blame on the Christians, and thus they suffered greatly, by being crucified, thrown to dogs, and burned.

How did the Christians over the Romans?

Christians overcame Roman by the conversion of Constantine. Once Constantine was converted to Christianity, many believe this was the acceptance of Christians. Early history reports that it was not the belief of the Christian's religion that created the conflict withRome, but the failure of Christians to honor the sacrifice to the Roman gods that created many of the problems. Historical writings have shown that Christians were allowed to practice their faith as long as they were still willing to maintain their sacrifices to the Roman gods. When this was not adhered to, the Romans considered it to be in violation of their law. When Christians were arrested during this time, it is written that Christians were prompted to renounce and give sacrifice to the Roman gods in order to live yet, many chose to be martyred instead. These facts come from a documentary from the History Channel.
