It isn't. The velocity of both is the same at about 2.998x108m/s. A change in wavelength is associated with a change in frequency not velocity. The frequency of Ultraviolet light is about 750 PHz (Peta Hertz) while that of infrared half that at 375PHz.

How does the wavelength of infrared compared with the wavelength of ultraviolet?

Infrared waves have lower frequency and longer wavelengths than X-rays. They are both transverse waves, travel at the same speed in vacuum (3 x 108 ms-1) and do not require a material medium for their transmission. Infrared is non-ionizing, x-rays are ionizing.

Wavelength of red light in a vacuum?

around 750 nanometers.

What is meant by vacuum wavelength?

Vacuum wavelength is the wavelength that is measured if the wave is passing through a vacuum. To get the wavelength in a medium you need to know the refractive index.

Which travels faster in a vacuum gamma rays or infrared rays?

Neither. In vacuum, all electromagnetic radiation has the same speed, regardless of wavelength. It's the speed we call "the speed of light", but it applies to all of those other electromagnetic phenomena too.

If you know the vacuum wavelength of any form of electromagnetic radiation you can determine its frequency because?

You know its speed in vacuum, and frequency = (speed) / (wavelength) .

Is infrared radiation the longest wavelength?

No, in a vacuum infrared radiation has a wave length of between 10^-6 and 10^-2 while radio waves have 10^-1 and beyond and long radio waves have a length of 10^3 and beyond.

Do infrared waves travel through a vacuum?

Yes, infrared waves are part of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum and all electromagnetic radiation will propagate through a vacuum.

If you have a strong infrared absorbance at 1500 cm-1. what is the wavelength of its frequency?

1501

What speed in a vacuum ultraviolet or infrared?

c.All electromagnetic radiation travels at the same speed in a vacuum; it is labelled c.

What can infrared light travel across?

It can travel across the vacuum of space.

Does Lithium conduct heat?

Lithium does indeed conduct heat. All forms of matter conduct heat to a greater or lesser degree; only a vacuum has no heat conducting capacity. And even in a vacuum, heat can be radiated in the form of infrared radiation.

What would be the wavelength if the violet ray passes through diamond?

The wavelength of a violet ray in vacuum is 400nm. The refractive index of diamond is about 2.42. Using the formula λ'=λ/n where λ' is the wavelength of the ray in a material, λ is the wavelength in vacuum and n is the refractive index of the material, we get λ'=165nm.
