Many times. Contrary to popular belief, the roof worked fine. It was the Penguins who added the extra large scoreboard, causing it to no longer open in 1995. I attended at least three concerts there with the roof open in the 80s. And drove by it with the roof open often. The roof opened almost completely and silently,in about 2 minutes. A true marvel to watch and awesome to see a concert with it open. Pittsburgh dropped the ball on tearing down a building that was a marvel. No surprise.
The Millennium Dome was opened to the public for the year 2000 celebrations. It has now been renamed the O2 arena.
The "basement" of the Colosseum has recently been opened to tourists. Visitors can see the remains of the rooms where the gladiators waited, the cages for the wild animals, the plumbing for the flooding and draining of the arena, the elevators that raised the animals and the scenery (and sometimes men) to the surface of the arena. There's a maze of corridors and even latrines down there. The "basement" of the Colosseum has recently been opened to tourists.
