Twice once as a boy and then as a king.

David was anointed 3 times. In 1 Samuel 16:13 by Jesse. In 2 Samuel 2:4, by the men of Judas as king over the house of Judah; and in 2 Samuel 5:3, as King of Israel.

David was anointed twice (1 Samuel 16:13 and 2 Samuel 2:4), once by Samuel and once by the men of Judah. Tradition states that David was king from 876 BCE to 836 BCE. Non-traditional opinions place his lifetime at an earlier time.

How many years between Samuel's anointing of David and David becoming King?

David was anointed 3 times. We don't know the age of David at his first anointing, but he did not become king at that time ( I Samuel 16:1-13). David was anointed king of Judah at age 33, about 1004 B.C. (II Samuel 2:4) and king over all Israel at age 40, about 997 B.C. (II Samuel 5:2) and reigned until 965 B.C.

Who is the prophet that God had crown King David?

The prophet in question did not actually crown King David; he just anointed him as a future successor. It was the prophet Samuel son of Hannah who originally 'anointed' David, declaring that he would be king in front of his brothers. However, David did not ascend to the throne at that time. It wasn't until David was 30 years old that 'the older men' from only one tribe, the tribe of Judah at Hebron, anointed David as King. Saul's surviving son (Ish-Bosheth) was king for the other tribes, until his assassination 2 two years later. It was only then that the other tribes came under David's Kingship.

Why was david anointed king 3 times?

There are two possible reasons for David having been anointed as the future king of Israel:In 1 Samuel, God was angry with King Saul for disobeying Samuel's instructions to utterly destroy the Amaleks and all their animals, so David was chosen and then anointed by Samuel to replace Saul as king. The Book of Chronicles contains no mention of why God anointed David and only mentions that the elders of Israel (not Samuel) joined in anointing David king by acclamation, in gratitude for his leadership under Saul.
