Between 25 and 40 thousand.
The US fielded 78,700 troops.
i heard it was mexicans crossing into our territory when we had our owwn boundaries. It is a little more complicated than that. America claimed the territory and so did Mexico. It was disputed. America sent troops to patrol the area, and so did Mexico. When the Mexican troops entered the disputed territory, America used it as a pretext to attack.
Americans believed that the Mexicans started the War because they "Shed American blood, on American Soil"- President James Polk....but really American troops crossed the border were on Mexico's territory.
Disease
Because American troops were present in the disputed Neuches Strip.
Current Mexican armed forces are composed of some 255,000 professional, combat-ready troops and approximately 300,000 reserve forces, with a total estimated number of 555,000 troops. It is the 25th largest army in the world. Also, according to some American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) estimates, the Mexican government would be able to mobilize some 38,257,000 troops, from male Mexicans ages 18-49. Of them, some 19 million would be fit to enter the armed forces.
They called American troops "Gringos"
Mexicans!
General Winfield Scott.
Green-go!
There were a couple different Battles of Vera Cruz but you probably mean the one in 1847 during the Mexican-American War, when the American troops were led by General Winfield Scott.
Remember the Alamo!
There were 4,000 Mexican troops killed or wounded, and 3,000 captured.
Many, many more. Mexicans are unwilling to accept US troops in their territory, as they are very proud - some would say stubborn - in this respect, not trusting American intentions whenever the military is involved. How can we blame them? Every time American troops have set up afoot on Mexican soil, Mexican people die.

Generals Scott, Taylor and Kearny.
Stephen Kearny was the first to lead troops into Mexican territory during the war. John D. Sloat led a fleet behind him for military reinforcement.
