there have been two major tsunamis in Asia recently; the Boxing Day tsunami 2004 and Japanese in 2011. It is unknown how many tsunamis have occurred in Asia because we haven't been recording these events from the dawn of time.

The word tsunami is actually Japanese, and they are relatively common to the Japanese islands. Tsunamis (also known as Tidal Waves) typically are not a single wave but a series of them, making it extremely difficult to determine the actual number of waves that have hit the islands throughout history. There have been several that have had historical significance, including the "Orphan Tsunami of 1700", beside the 2011 wave.
