The hummingbird ranges from Alaska and Canada to Tiera Del Fuego, the full length of the Americas - the only place where they are native.   • Berylline Hummingbird

  • Broad-billed Hummingbird
  • Buff-bellied Hummingbird
  • Lucifer Hummingbird
  • Magnificent Hummingbird
  • Ruby-throated hummingbird
  • Violet-crowned hummingbird
  • White-eared hummingbird

Of these, most are western and southwestern species. Only the Ruby-throated nests east of the Mississippi River, but others are found as uncommon to rare migrants and winter residents in the eastern states.

Species that nest outside the U.S. but have been recorded here as uncommon to rare visitors include Green Violetear (various states), Green-breasted Mango (various states), Plain-capped Starthroat (Arizona), Cinnamon Hummingbird (Arizona and New Mexico), Xantus's Hummingbird (California), and Bahama Woodstar (Florida).
