Theere are a great many waterfalls in New Zealand, as the terrain is generally not flat and most areas get reasonable to high rainfall. Therefore there are many streams and rivers that run over several abrupt changes in level, creating waterfalls.
Three major river systems, Clutha, Waitaki, and Waikato each have several generating stations on them. The largest hydro station drains Lake Manapouri into Doubtful Sound. many more smaller stations.
how many dams are there in new zealand how many dams are there in new zealand
There are roughly 1000 rivers in New Zealand (more than that realistically).
there are 54 hydro power stations in new zealand
There are nearly 1000.
New Zealand's rivers and dams supply hyroelectric power, and its hot springs provide geothermal energy.

New Zealand has a wide variety of natural resources. These include natural gas, sand, iron ore, timber, hydro-power, gold, limestone and coal.
Hydro Electric Dams, Geothermal, Wind Power
Fossil Fuels, hydro-electric dams and, more recently, wind farms.
New Zealand's rivers and dams supply hyroelectric power, and its hot springs provide geothermal energy.
Yes, several. 52% of power in NZ comes from hydro.
Electricity.
the waikato rive in new zealand
The Waikato River; it supplies 13% of the country's total energy.
The building of a new town (in New Zealand) is usually associated with the construction of a major public works in a remote area. Possibly the last one of these would be the town of TWIZEL, in the Mackenzie basin of the Waitaki River system. Built to accommodate the work force needed for the construction of several hydro dams. Subsequent to that project, much of the housing was sold off into private ownership.
The environmental threats to the use of hydro electricity may include the loss of habitat for native species, during the construction of new dams -- the survival of some of the displaced species may be threatened.
We have a large array of Hydro Dam's and also several 1000 wind turbines.

By and large, water is not a scarce commodity in New Zealand. In some dry areas, farming pressures do deplete the local aquifers, but that is not a large scale problem. some dry areas would include quite a bit of Canterbury, and Marlbrough. In some seasons, the Wairarapa may consider they have a drought, bit I've never heard of significant aquifer depletion there. Most of our electric generation is from hydro-electric dams.
