A lot depends on breed and, especially the breeder/trainer, and "Mom". Our kennel trains K9/Protection working dogs and at 6 weeks they eat and drink independently.
Many others (as pets) may routinely take 10-12 weeks, or more.
Get recommendations from several Vets for area trainers that know your dog's breed and give them a call. Most are willing to share their knowledge with you.
