Answer

A Mormon can have one wife or husband at a time. If that marriage ends in divorce or the spouse dies, he or she can get remarried. No different than Non-Mormons.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" Church) may have only one wife. Some Church members practiced polygamy from the early 1840's until 1890, but this practice was banned by Church leaders in 1890. Anyone found practicing polygamy after that time has been excommunicated from the Church.

Answer

One.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints abides by the law of the land. The Law states that a person may have only one spouse.

A practice existed, via Godly revelation, in the earlier part of the 19th Century that permitted men, under certain conditions, to marry more than one wife, but this practice was stopped according to later revelation when United States Law decreed that the practice be outlawed.

Those that attempt to practice it today are likely to be excommunicated.

Answer

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as of the year 1890, has discontinued the practice of plural marriage, and any person professing to be a member who practices plural marriage is not considered by the church to be a member in good standing. So the answer to your question is no! Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints cannot have two wives.

There is a church that broke off from the LDS (Latter-day Saints) Church, which is not a part of the LDS church, called the Fundamentalist LDS church, or FLDS church, which does practice polygamy, and other variants. However they broke off because the Mainstream prohibits polygamy.

Therefore, there is a lot of slander and there are lies told about the real LDS church, however if you want to know what the real professed doctrine of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is, go to Mormon.org, or LDS.org.

This depends on why you practice polygamy. For example, most Muslim polygamists are only allowed to have 3 or 4 wives. Those who practice polygamy independantly of religion can have as many as they want. Some polygamist cultures only have two... How many wives a polygamist has varies by their culture and location.

Since 1890, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) has excommunicated anyone with more than one wife. The only exception is in cases of divorce or death.

The Church does not keep statistics on how many wives a man has had, so this question is impossible to answer. I did know of a Mormon man who was divorced, lost his second wife to death, and remarried a 3rd time... that's the most I've ever heard of.

When the Church did allow men to have more than one wife, in the 1800's, still most had only one. Those few who did have multiples generally had 2 or 3. Brigham Young is generally considered to have had the most. He had 55 wives over the course of his lifetime, although not all at once. With 16 of these wives he lived an actual marriage relationship (had children, lived with them, etc), and the other 39 were mostly widows whom he simply took care of financially.

Male members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) may have one wife. In cases of divorce or death, remarriage is common and acceptable. Sexual relationships are strictly prohibited outside of a legally recognized monogamous heterosexual marriage, and violation of this is punishable by excommunication from the Church.

In the mid 1800's, the Church allowed men to marry multiple wives. The standard for those men who practiced plural marriage (less than 50%) was two or three wives. This practice was outlawed in 1890.

If you mean how many women in the Church are allowed to marry, the answer is all of them. The Church strongly emphasizes marriage and family, it encourages all members to marry and raise children.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) may have only one spouse at a time. A man may have ONE wife at a time. If he is divorced or his wife dies, he may remarry. This means that over the course of his lifetime, a Mormon man might have more than one wife, but he can only have one wife at a time.

The Church did allow the practice of polygamy (having more than one wife) for approximately 50 years, between 1840 and 1890, based on the practice found in the Old Testament. Any Mormon found practicing polygamy today will be excommunicated (kicked out).

No, they do not. The Mormon church has not practiced polygamy since about 1890. Anyone you find practicing polygamy is not a member of the Mormon church.
