The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with 6 million members in the United States and 14 million members world-wide will excommunicate any member that practices polygamy. That is the official church position and has been so since the Mandate to stop the practice in 1890.
Latter-day Saints before 1890 were allowed to practice polygamy because they believed the Lord had commanded it. Studies show that 25% to 50% of Mormon men took multiple wives, most had 2 or 3 wives but some higher leaders had as many as 30.
Buddhism does not stipulate cultural practices. Buddhism is practiced in many countries, where cultures determine how many wives or husbands a person may have. The Buddhist philosophy stresses not harming people whenever possible, so if you live in a culture in which having more than one wife or more than one husband is acceptable, it's okay to marry more than one person as long as no one is getting hurt by what you're doing. If you live in a place where having multiple spouses is not acceptable, you should abide by those rules, unless your spouses agree, and you all agree to be discreet, so as not to make others uncomfortable with your living situation.
The Buddha did not have any wives. However, before his enlightenment, his name was Siddhatta, and he had one wife.
The texts say that Siddhatta had an arranged marriage to Yasodhara who was his cousin. Both were 16 at the time of the wedding and the union led to the birth of a son who Siddhatta named Rahula ("fetter").
According to the traditional account, there was an arranged marriage to Yasodhara, a cousin of the same age. She gave birth to a son Rahula. (Wikipedia)
