Define what is meant by an "illegal" gun.
If by 'illegal' you mean one that ownership is forbidden to you by federal law (e.g.: filed-off serial number - converted to full automatic - etc), your case would not be prosecuted by the state - you could be prosecuted by the US Attorney.
If you mean that you have a gun that your state law prohibits you from possessing, you would probably appear in the juvenile court of your local jurisdiction.
