Southerners realized that blacks were a potent political force and that they would have to share power politically. It heightened fears of Southerners that blacks might gain political power.
Definitions of what is the southern region of the United States vary slightly from one person and context to another. The south certainly includes all the states of the Confederacy, but also others. The amount of meat consumed varied by time of year, region, and success of the hunt. At some points of the year Plains Indians might be forced to survive on roots and berries depending on conditions, and during other times of the year (right after the hunt) an adult male might consume up to five pounds of buffalo meat.

Farming might be easiest in the western region near river valleys or coastal areas, where water is more readily available for irrigation. These areas typically have fertile soil and a milder climate that is conducive to growing a variety of crops. Additionally, access to transportation networks for distribution can also make farming easier in the western region.
