When they saw this sign many years later they knew this was where the great Aztec city would be built. However they had a problem. The sign was in the middle of a great lake. They needed some way to create solid land in the water so they could built homes and irigate crops. they did this by creating huge platforms made from bundles reeds and clay. they could then build homes and plant crops on these large platforms. As the city grew so did the size of these platforms. Eventually this beautiful and amzing city was destroyed but a spanish warrior named Cortes. The last ruler of Tenochitlan was the emperor Moctezuma. He lost the battle against Cortes and the Aztec empire was destroyed.
