The media is always looking for a story. If there is anything scandalous or embarrassing about a candidate or his family, they will try to find it and broadcast it. Sometimes they publish misleading stories and even publish unsubstantiated rumors. They can be sued for this, but lawsuits are expensive even if one wins and worse, they take time. People tend to forget the outcome of the suits but do not forget the scandal.
