Assuming you're referring to "war nickels", they retail for around a dollar in average condition. Better-quality coins of course bring more but it depends on their date and mint mark.
War nickels were made of an alloy of 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese because nickel metal was needed for the war effort. That small amount (1.75 gm) of silver makes them worth more than other nickels minted in the 1940s. War nickels can be identified by a large mint mark letter over the dome of Monticello on the back.
All other US nickels are made of an alloy of 25% nickel and 75% copper, regardless of date.
