In circulated condition a 1942 dime is worth only about $1 for its silver content.
As for the cent, please check again. It's steel, not silver. Well over a billion were minted and they sell for about 35 to 50 cents.
It would cost you more in gas or postage to sell them than you would make in profit. My advice would be to keep them as reminders of that long-ago era when the U.S. was in WWII. The steel cent in particular is a symbol of the war: they were struck from scrap steel because copper was needed for making ammunition.
A 1942 silver Mercury head dime may be worth around $2-3, depending on its condition. A 1943 silver penny is actually quite rare, as most pennies from that year were made of steel due to the war effort. It could be worth anywhere from $10 to $100 or more. Whether you should sell them or not depends on your personal preference, but if you're looking to make a profit, it might be worth selling them to a collector or numismatist.
probably a novelty...lincolns were never made in silver In the 60's kids would dip pennies in mercury. The mercury would bond tightly with the copper, resulting in a cent that looked silver or nickel in color. This was before the dangers of mercury poisoning were known.
There is no such thing as a U.S. silver penny.
US pennies have never been made of silver.
What is know as "Quick Silver" is mercury not silver. Mercury you may find in non manufacturing settings will be a mid-grade Mercury (1ml=.5-.75 ml hg) and should be worth about $100 per Flask (500ml)
The U.S. never minted a silver penny. It would have more than a dime's worth of silver in it. Your coin has been plated.
Yes the 1970 penny is real silver and is worth keeping or even selling

U.S. pennies have never contained silver. Your penny is probably silver plated for jewelry or other decorations.
There is actually no such thing as a 1973 'silver' penny. However, there are some Lincoln pennies from 1973-74 that have a shiny, silver-like look. These pennies are worth about $1.25.
