No, most phones of today still have a 12 key keyboard, because of this it does not even so much as familiarize you with the keyboard. Even with QWERTY keyboards on cell phones, you are using your thumbs, so you do not develop muscle memory. The QWERTY does however make you more familiar with were the keys are.
