If you're only replacing the compressor and you did't blow a hose or something, 3-4 ounces should do it. It is recommended to replace the receiver/drier and orifice tube when replacing the compressor. In which case you would add 1-2 ounces more plus the 3-4 ounces for the compressor.
Need to know year and model... a 1979 K20, 1989 S15, 2005 3500 quad cab with dual zone climate control, etc. aren't going to be the same.

It is on the back of the engine, just behind the distributor.
It is to the right of the Distributor about 2 inches.
I would recommend AC/Delco, Purolator, Wix, or Bosch in that order.
This is an oiless compressor; it requires no oil at all.
Make sure you are looking for the THE OIL LEVEL SENSOR and not the oil pressure switch. Oil level sensor should still be located on the oil Pan.
