Just the radiator takes about 3 quarts. The whole cooling system takes about a gallon and a half. (6 quarts).
That depends entirely on which engine and which radiator options you have.
It varies a little if you have ac or not but for the most part the entire system including the engine block, heater core, radiator and all hoses, holds about 11 to 12 quarts of coolant.
The water in the mixture is what dose most of the cooling. when the engine gets hot the heat transfers to cooler object around it such as the air surrounding the engine and the coolant flowing threw the engine. After the coolant gets hot the water pump pushes the coolant threw the radiator. once the coolant gets to the radiator air flows threw the fins of the radiator and it cools the coolant inside. the antifreeze chemically raises the boiling point of the water so it can absorb heat at temperatures higher than boiling point. the coolants also lowers the freezing point so that the water dose not freeze in the winter. Some coolants have corrosion protectors. it all depends on what the car manufacturer wants in there cars. I know you didn't ask for this much detail but i hope it was helpful!

dose it beep and say hi with a pick of oil can on sreen if so i belive it meens to much oil in car mine dose this alot normally up down hills or when braking when oil moves in engine i was told not to worry about it
I believe that the coolant system capacity is 8.6 quarts ( 8.1 liters ) for your Explorer ( if it has air conditioning )
disstiled water work an so dose tap water.

What can the problem be as my 1998 Lumina car is losing missing anti frezze. When I fill the radiator my heater is starting to give off heat. At times their is a red light to goes on and off at the right side and bottom of the dash board. I have no idea what this light is showing as to the missing anti frezze. Dose the electric fan that is not working has any relashionship why i am missing antifrezze and whare dose the anntifrezze go or evaparate. Please answer because i am now confused. Abeys abbey1@videotron.ca Most likely you have a small hole in the radiator somewhere. I have the same problem in my 1995 Lumina, and I have to replace approximately 1/2 gallon of antifreeze approximately every 6 weeks or so. This would be most noticeable when you see a puddle left underneath the car where the radiator sits. You want to find out what size the radiator is by using a tape measure across the top of the radiator. For the '95, there are 3 different core sizes, so I have to match mine to the correct size. Any time you see that Low Coolant light go on, you know that you need to refill your coolant. Wait until the engine has cooled off before refilling though.
50/50 my friend u should have 50% water and 50% coolant the reason for this is cuz water boils at a lower temp then anti-frezze mixing 50/50 will save your life wen it comes to a car if u fill with just water u have to look at the facts what dose water do to metal? it rust's anti-frezze has a anti rust mix in it to keep it from rusting. so after filling it with 50/50 start your car and run it for 5 minutes with your radiator cap off keep adding till it stops going down What?! Until full! Start the vhicle, run for 10 inutes to enable the thermostat to open and the coolant to flow. Add the proper mix of coolant to fill the radiator to the bottom of the neck. The system will be sufficienty full.
yes it dose it controls the voltage to the fuel pump and therefor the pressure
