During eight months of 1862 the CSS Florida took twenty two Union ships. The ship sailed to France for repairs and once again began its attacks. Beginning in 1864, it took another 13 Union ships. In October of 1864, the CSS Florida was rammed by a Union warship and thus ended the CSS Florida's naval campaign.
The CSS Alabama was built for the Confederate States of America. It became a deadly menace for Union shipping during the US Civil War. The ship was assigned to seize or sink Union cargo vessels. and inflict damage to the Union's economy. Almost 70 Union cargo ships were sunk by this Confederate warship.
It is estimated that about 22 Union ships were sunk by Confederate torpedoes. There were also about 12 ships that were seriously damaged by torpedoes.

During the American Civil War, Union ships occupied several bodies of water as part of the Union blockade. These included major ports and waterways along the Atlantic coast, such as the Chesapeake Bay, Delaware Bay, and the coastline from North Carolina to Florida. Additionally, Union forces also blockaded ports along the Gulf of Mexico, including those in Texas, Louisiana, and the Mississippi River.

The coastlines of the South stretched for several thousand miles. The blockading efforts of the Union navy would be hard pressed to execute the best type of blockades. To do so, the US Navy deployed their ships into four squadrons to cover the vast area that the South presented. From the coastline of Texas to Florida and northwards to Virginia.
Ships of the United Kingdom will fly under the Union 'Jack' (Union Flag) along with a 'Red Duster' (Red Ensign). Also, ships of other British Sovereign Territories (ex-empire) eg. Bermuda, Bahamas will also use the Union 'Jack' as well as their own flag.

The tactic was called "kamikaze," which translates to "divine wind" in Japanese. During World War II, kamikaze pilots executed suicide attacks by crashing their explosive-laden aircraft into Allied naval vessels, particularly American ships. This strategy aimed to inflict maximum damage and demoralize enemy forces.
Cruise ships use several ports in Florida including Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Tampa and Port Canaveral (near Orlando).
