For most people a wasp sting is just a painful nuisance which causes some local swelling for a while. For a very few people -- those who are hypersensitive to wasp venom -- it is more serious and can cause more serious symptoms such as nausea and feeling faint. In the most extreme cases for a very small number of people the victim's blood pressure will fall and there can be generalized swelling of tissues possibly causing difficulty with breathing. This is called anaphylactic shock and requires immediate medical help.
