What kind of computers?

For the home there were only the little boxes like the VIC20, TRS-80, and Apple2 which hooked up to your TV to play Pong... (or write very simple programs) in the $400-range (about $1000 in today's money.)

Commercially, there were mainframes (room-sized) and mini-frames (desk-sized) costing $10's and $100's of thousands.
