They are tribal property and thus not usually for sale.
Probably not. Katchina dolls were used by American Indians. They have various types of masks, helmets, etc often animistic. They are portative and sometimes considered portable totem poles- not entirely true but a good simile. Katchina is, and I should emphasize this, NOT a tribe, unlike Apache, Cherokee, Cayuse, etc. ( cayuse is also a breed of horse!)
In a nutshell- anthropomorphic ( human formed) or zoomorphic ( animal-like) portable dolls. they are sometimes incorrectly-but it is a flag of convenience- ( Portable totem poles) they are quite distinct- but are American Indian in origin. Kachina, sometimes spelled Katchina- is NOT a tribe. There is or was a Katchina Doll 200 women"s Air Race- a Katchina doll is a prize. Be advised Amelia Earhart"s family had connections with the A.T.S.F. railway- which may explain this, and her predilection for Turquoise.

Santeria and Voodoo are two distinct religious practices, but have some aspects in common. as you mentioned dolls one can draw an analogy between totem poles- which are physically static structures- some have movable wings for thunderbirds, etc, and the anthropomorphic but diminutive Katchina ( sometimes spelled Kachina) dolls. they are two different tribal customs. The Katchina dolls are NOT portative totem poles, or something akin to wearable crosses or scapulars.

Kachina dolls represent spirit beings or something from the natural world that can include, but not limited to, an element, a natural event, or an ancestor. The dolls are given to children to protect and respect. It is believed that if one respects and cares for the Kachina that it can use its power to do good for humankind. The Kachinas are used by the Zuni, Pueblo and Hopi tribes.
